UberGlobal partners with Microsoft to proof Australian Government community cloud

UberGlobal has partnered with Microsoft Corp to run a proof of concept (POC) for government community cloud. The POC announcement was made on 1/2/2011 during a function at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. The audience was addressed jointly by Philip Goldie, Director of the Server and Tools Business Group at Microsoft Australia, and Michael McGoogan, Chief Executive Officer at UberGlobal.

One of Uber’s existing Australian Government Agency customer’s has agreed to participate in the POC, which was a key factor in Microsoft’s decision to support UberGlobal’s bid to develop a government community cloud.

Philip Goldie, director of the Server and Tools Business Group at Microsoft Australia, said: “Microsoft’s technology and UberGlobal’s managed services will form a dynamic combination, and we expect this partnership to develop an attractive commercial cloud offering for Australian Government Agencies. UberGlobal is already providing Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to government customers with best practice security measures in place and its platform for hosting services with small to medium business demonstrates that it has the scale and competency to establish commercial grade government community cloud services.”

“A community cloud that is exclusively available to Australian Government customers makes a great deal of sense as the taxpayer savings would be significant.
Gaining the support from Microsoft today is the direct result of carefully addressing the needs of our government customers and years of hard work. Our approach has always focused on providing the managed infrastructure services which government needs to quickly deploy new IT environments in response to dynamic situations. People are now expecting their governments to provide services 24/7 via the internet and we are seeing more and more of these being brought into our secure infrastructure.” Michael McGoogan, UberGlobal.
